England Set to End World Cup Boycott After FIFA Assurances

England and other European countries are set to end their planned boycott of FIFA competitions after receiving assurances that Gianni Infantino will not bring back his controversial World Cup sell-off plan.

UEFA had threatened to boycott FIFA tournaments after Infantino proposed selling a stake in future World Cup profits to private investors. The plan was later withdrawn following strong opposition from European football associations.

However, UEFA wanted more than just the cancellation of the proposal. It also sought guarantees that similar plans would not return in the future.

FIFA has now provided those assurances, clearing the way for European nations, including England, to take part in upcoming FIFA competitions. UEFA is expected to formally lift the boycott threat at a meeting in Monaco.

The dispute is not completely over, though. UEFA remains unhappy with Infantino's leadership and continues to push for changes at FIFA.
