This Is Bigger Than the NFF, Chris Green Demands National Football Summit
Chris Green has had enough of waiting on the NFF. The former Technical Committee chairman is calling for a national football summit, one that pulls in government, the private sector, clubs, ex-players and administrators, to confront what he sees as a system too broken for any single body to repair.
Green's push comes as familiar complaints resurface: grassroots neglect, shaky league administration, weak coaching pipelines, poor infrastructure, and a national team still searching for direction. He has made versions of this argument before, but this time the ask is concrete: get everyone in a room.
"This is bigger than the NFF. We need a national football conference where every stakeholder can sit together and honestly discuss the problems confronting our game and agree on lasting solutions," Green said.
He rejects the idea that Nigeria's problem is talent. It never has been, in his view. What's missing is structure, and the discipline to build one.
"The talent has never been our problem. Once we fix the system and address these challenges properly, Nigerian football has everything it takes to recover the ground it has lost in recent years," he added.
The timing matters. The NPFL is mid-conversation on governance reform and funding, and the Super Eagles are still working through their remaining 2026 World Cup qualifiers while looking ahead to the 2027 AFCON. Green, a former Rivers State FA chairman, has repeatedly argued that Nigeria needs coordinated planning from the grassroots up rather than the piecemeal fixes it keeps settling for.
