Simba SC Held Goalless by Mogadishu City in CECAFA Kagame Cup Group B Opener

Simba SC of Tanzania were held to a 0-0 draw by Somalia's Mogadishu City at Kigali's Pele Stadium on Saturday, opening Group B of the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup with a result nobody in the Simba camp wanted.

It capped a rough day for Tanzanian clubs. Defending champions Singida Black Stars had already lost 2-0 to South Sudan's Jamus SC earlier on Saturday, a result Pan Africa Football described as a shock.

Simba coach Steve Barker started young Tanzanian talents Bakari Msimu and new signing Nathaniel Chilambo, but the side couldn't break down a Mogadishu City team built around Somali internationals and foreign journeymen. Simba dominated the ball and tested goalkeeper Yusuf Lampaza a handful of times, but Mogadishu City held its shape through the danger and took the point.

Simba face Group B leaders Jamus SC on Tuesday, while Mogadishu City play Singida Black Stars in the same round.
