Premier League Is Here; Introduces New Rules for the 2026/27 Season

The new Premier League season is underway, and several important rule changes are now in place.
One of the biggest changes affects substitutions. Players being replaced must leave the pitch within 10 seconds. If they take longer, their replacement must wait until the next stoppage after one minute before entering.
There are also new time limits for goal-kicks and throw-ins. Referees can use a visible five-second countdown when they believe a player is deliberately delaying the restart.
Another change affects injured players. When play is stopped because of an injury, players who receive treatment may have to remain off the pitch for one minute before returning, with some exceptions.
The new rules are mainly designed to reduce time-wasting and keep matches moving.
