Man Utd weigh up Marcus Rashford makeweight in Manu Kone pursuit

Manchester United have identified Roma midfielder Manu Kone as a summer target, though the move has yet to win full backing from the club's hierarchy, according to Goal.com, which cites La Gazzetta dello Sport. Roma are said to be holding firm on a €60m valuation as they look to raise funds under Financial Fair Play restrictions, and some at Old Trafford are reportedly wary of committing that much to a single position with other areas of the squad also needing investment.

One idea being discussed internally, per the Telegraph via Goal, is including Marcus Rashford in a deal to help bridge the valuation gap. Any such arrangement would be complicated by Rashford's reported €11m net annual salary, well beyond what Roma could take on outright, meaning a loan with United subsidising wages is the more realistic structure if it happens at all.

Kone, 25, joined Roma from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2024 on a deal running to 2029, and registered two goals and three assists in 37 appearances last season. He is understood to be open to a Premier League move, though a return to France with PSG also holds appeal. Al-Ahli have also registered interest in the France international, who made five appearances at this summer's World Cup as France finished fourth.

United have already been busy in this window, bringing in Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Tynan Thompson from Tottenham.
