Lamine Camara Impresses Felipe Luis as Monaco Open Ligue 1 With Win at Le Havre
Lamine Camara controlled the midfield for AS Monaco in their 1-0 win at Le Havre on Sunday, the opening game of Monaco's Ligue 1 season, and manager Felipe Luis singled him out for praise afterward. Eric Dier's 14th-minute goal settled the match.
Camara finished the game with a 93% pass success rate and full accuracy on his long balls, alongside six successful tackles, per Pan Africa Football's post-match numbers. The 22-year-old played the full 90 minutes.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Luis was direct about what he saw. "He is a special player, he is the kind of player that, when you see him play, you will be like, wow, this kid is worth it," the Monaco boss said. Luis, who managed Flamengo's youth setup before taking senior charge at Monaco this year, added that he hopes to keep Camara beyond the current transfer window, with the midfielder linked to Chelsea, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace. "For sure I hope he stays with me this year, because if he stays, next year he can work even more," he said, also praising Camara's mentality and willingness to sacrifice for the team.
Camara, under contract at Monaco until June 2029, is next in line to feature when the club hosts Górnik Zabrze in the second leg of their Europa Conference League play-off on Thursday, August 27, before Olympique Marseille visit three days later. He has made 37 appearances and scored five goals for Senegal, and played four matches as the Teranga Lions reached the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.
