Ghana Premier League winner to receive GHC3m under new prize structure

The Ghana Premier League champion will receive GHC3 million for the 2026/27 season after the Ghana Football Association approved a significant increase in the competition’s prize money.
GFA president Kurt Okraku announced the new figure on Thursday, August 20, during the association’s 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Accra. Pan Africa Football reported the announcement.
The new champion’s prize represents a rise from the GHC1 million awarded to last season’s league winner. The champions will also receive a JAC vehicle valued at $33,000, adding another major reward to the league title.
The financial support extends beyond the eventual winner. According to the GFA announcement reported by Pan Africa Football, each of the 18 Premier League clubs will receive GHC1 million as a preparation fee for the new campaign. The association said GHC9.5 million in total will be paid to clubs under the new financial arrangements.
The prize structure also sets payments for clubs finishing immediately behind the champions. The runners-up will receive GHC1 million, while third and fourth place will receive GHC800,000 and GHC750,000 respectively.
The new financial package comes as Ghana prepares for another 18-team Premier League campaign. The GFA has confirmed that the 2026/27 season will begin over the September 4–7 weekend, with defending champions Medeama SC starting their title defence against Dreams FC.
The GFA has also announced additional rewards across domestic football, including vehicles for the Women’s Premier League winners and the best domestic Black Stars player, alongside $5,000 awards for selected individual Premier League and Women’s Premier League performers and coaches.
For Ghana’s top flight, the change puts more value on finishing at the top and gives clubs a larger financial incentive as the new season approaches.
