FIFA, South African Football Mourn Jayden Adams
My thoughts and condolences, as well as those of everyone at FIFA and the global football community, are with his family, friends and teammates," Infantino said in a statement carried by CBS Sports. "The Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns star will be sorely missed."
Sports minister Gayton McKenzie said he learned of Adams's death "with profound shock and a heavy heart," calling him one of South African football's brightest young talents. The South African Football Players Union, in a post on X reported by CBC, said "death has cruelly stolen one of our own," and asked that Adams be remembered for his humility and the pride with which he represented the country.
No cause of death has been confirmed. McKenzie has appealed to media and the public to avoid speculation while that remains the case, a request Fulltiime is honouring.
Adams helped South Africa reach the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time, then helped Mamelodi Sundowns lift the CAF Champions League this year after coming through the Stellenbosch academy system.
Football beyond the final whistle isn't a tagline. It's where the real game lives.
