Let's be honest about what this really is. CONMEBOL has ten members and one Venezuela has never sniffed a World Cup. A 64-team format all but guarantees every South American nation a seat at the table. This isn't generosity. It's self-interest wearing a centenary ribbon.
FIFA already gutted the tournament's prestige by ballooning it to 48 teams for 2026. Now they want more? Ceferin called it "a bad idea," and for once, UEFA is right. Qualifying becomes meaningless. Group stages become filler. The World Cup risks becoming a bloated spectacle instead of the ruthless meritocracy that made it sacred.
Infantino says he'll "examine" it after 2026. He should reject it outright.
