South Africa, Zambia and Malawi Get COSAFA's Backing for WAFCON Morocco 2026

The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) has wished South Africa, Zambia and Malawi well as the trio represent the region at the TotalEnergies CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. The expanded 16-team tournament kicked off on Sunday and runs to the final on August 16.

COSAFA president Tariq Babitseng said the region's representation was a source of pride. "Having three teams representing our region at this prestigious tournament is a significant achievement and demonstrates the continued progress being made in women's football across Southern Africa," Babitseng said, according to COSAFA's official statement.

South Africa, the 2022 champions, are in Group B alongside Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Tanzania. Malawi are competing at WAFCON for the first time, a milestone COSAFA called significant for the Scorchers' development. Zambia are making their fifth appearance at the finals.
