NFF Orders Super Falcons Technical Crew to Step Down After WAFCON Failure

The Nigeria Football Federation has ordered the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down with immediate effect following Nigeria’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Pan Africa Football reported on August 18 that the NFF Executive Committee made the decision after the Super Falcons failed to secure a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The federation announced the move through its official social media channels, according to the report.
The decision brings an abrupt end to the current technical structure around the senior women’s national team. Pan Africa Football reported that the NFF did not identify the individual members affected and had not announced an interim coaching arrangement at the time of publication.
The World Cup setback carries particular weight for Nigeria. The Super Falcons had qualified for every previous edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, while the 2026 WAFCON also served as Africa’s qualification route for the 2027 tournament. CAF confirmed before the competition that the four semi-finalists would qualify automatically for the World Cup, with an additional pathway available through the play-offs.
Nigeria arrived in Morocco as the defending WAFCON champions after winning their record-extending 10th continental title in 2024.
The NFF now has to decide how to rebuild the technical setup ahead of the Super Falcons’ next competitive assignment. Pan Africa Football reported that Nigeria is scheduled to begin its 2028 Olympic qualifying campaign against Comoros in October, although no replacement coach had been announced when the report was published.
