Morocco's Issa Diop Completes Ipswich Move on Deal to 2030
Morocco defender Issa Diop has signed for Ipswich Town on a contract running to 2030, joining Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu at the club ahead of the 2026-27 season. Ipswich have paid a reported transfer fee of €10 million.
Diop switched international allegiance to Morocco a few months before the 2026 World Cup and started six of the Atlas Lions' seven matches at the tournament. He brings 173 Premier League appearances built up across spells at Fulham and West Ham United.
"I'm excited to take the next step in my career at Ipswich Town," Diop said. "I know how big the club is and have enjoyed all of the conversations I have had before making the move. It has been a busy summer for me, representing Morocco at the World Cup, but I am proud to be joining Ipswich Town."
Ipswich manager Gary O'Neil pointed to the experience Diop brings after last season's relegation. "Issa is an experienced player who has played a significant amount of his career in the Premier League, so we're delighted to have him with us. He is an imposing defender with good quality and a will to win," O'Neil said.
Diop began his career at Toulouse, making 95 appearances over three seasons before his first Premier League move. He joins the Ipswich squad this week ahead of a preseason friendly against Osasuna on July 29, with the club's Premier League return kicking off at home to Sunderland on August 22.
