Cape Verde's Willy Semedo Signs for UAE Pro League New Boys United FC
Willy Semedo has joined United FC of the UAE Pro League on a one-year contract, the newly promoted Dubai club confirmed on Saturday.
Semedo became a free agent after Cape Verde's run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where he made three appearances for the Blue Sharks during their Round of 32 campaign. He arrives at United FC, also known as Dubai United, off the back of a strong spell at Cypriot champions Omonia FC, where he scored 22 goals in all competitions in the 2025-26 season. Across three seasons at Omonia, Semedo scored 36 league goals and added 15 more in domestic cup and UEFA competition, according to Pan Africa Football.
United FC reached the UAE top flight for the first time since the club's founding in 2022, finishing runner-up in the UAE First Division League. Their squad already includes former Switzerland forward Haris Seferovic and former Senegal midfielder Moustapha Name. Semedo joins a front line built around experience as United prepare to open their debut Pro League campaign away at Al Wasl on August 15.
