Aissa Mandi Retires From Algeria After 122 Caps
The 34-year-old center-back made the announcement on social media following the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played four matches for Les Fennecs. "For Algeria, this is something extraordinary, magnificent. We are experiencing incredible emotions. The time has come for me to say goodbye," Mandi said in a video message.
Born in Châlons-en-Champagne, France, Mandi made his Algeria debut in 2013 and went on to feature in two World Cups. "On that November 19, 2013, I never imagined I would wear this jersey so many times. We experienced unforgettable moments, like that second star, which will forever mark the history of our country," he said, referencing Algeria's 2019 AFCON win.
Mandi scored eight goals in his international career and was one of the few remaining squad members who also played at the 2014 World Cup. He was named LOSC Lille's Player of the Season before this year's tournament and joined La Liga side Levante last week for his third spell in Spanish football.
