Ipswich Town Agrees on €4m Fee for Volendam Goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen
Ipswich Town have reached a full agreement to sign goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen from FC Volendam, with the 22-year-old set to fly to England this weekend to complete his medical.
The two clubs settled on a fee of €4m on Friday, a record base fee for Volendam, according to De Telegraaf, which also reports Van Oevelen has committed to a contract running until 2031. Volendam's previous high water mark came from Micky van de Ven's move to Wolfsburg, a deal that started at a €3.5m base fee before sell-on clauses eventually pushed its value to €8.5m.
Van Oevelen had looked close to joining Valencia earlier in the window, with personal terms reportedly agreed on a five-year deal in Spain. Valencia could not meet Volendam's valuation, and Ipswich moved in once that path closed. Twente had also monitored the goalkeeper.
He leaves Volendam off the back of a standout individual season, posting the best save percentage and most saves per 90 minutes in the Eredivisie, despite the club finishing in the relegation playoff spot and going down to Willem II on penalties. Ipswich want him settled in time for their pre-season camp in La Manga next week.
