Babajide's Two Assists Send Super Falcons Into WAFCON Quarter-Final Against Cameroon
Rinsola Babajide set up two goals to help Nigeria beat Egypt 6-2 in their final Group C fixture at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, a result that sends the Super Falcons into the quarter-finals as group runners-up.
Head coach Justin Madugu handed the AS Roma winger her first start of the tournament, and Babajide used it to unsettle Egypt's back line with pace and footwork throughout. She teed up Gift Monday in first-half stoppage time to make it 2-0, then found substitute Uchenna Kanu in the 57th minute to restore a two-goal cushion at 3-1.
"We knew what was at stake and we managed to pull through, so we are very happy," Babajide said after the match, via Pan Africa Football.
The win completes a turnaround for Nigeria after an opening loss to Malawi. The Super Falcons followed that setback with a 1-0 win over Zambia and Wednesday's rout of Egypt, finishing second in Group C on six points.
Nigeria now face longtime rivals Cameroon in the quarter-final in Casablanca. Because this WAFCON also serves as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, every team that reaches the semi-finals books an automatic World Cup spot, raising the stakes on the last-eight tie.
