Aston Villa have opened talks to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from West Ham United following the Hammers' relegation to the Championship, according to Goal.com.

Unai Emery has made right-back reinforcement a priority this summer and views the 28-year-old as strong competition for current first-choice Matty Cash. The Athletic reported Wan-Bissaka is on Villa's shortlist as the club builds a squad capable of competing in the Champions League, having secured Europa League glory and a fourth-place Premier League finish last season.

Villa's move comes after an earlier attempt to sign Flamengo's Emerson Royal fell through, sending the recruitment team back to the market for right-back options.

West Ham are said to be open to letting Wan-Bissaka leave as they adjust to their first Championship campaign since 2011-12. The defender made 27 appearances and provided three assists last season, but started only two of the club's final seven matches after losing his place to Kyle Walker-Peters. He is under contract at the London Stadium until 2031, having signed a seven-year deal when he joined from Manchester United for £15 million.

Wan-Bissaka spent five seasons at Old Trafford, making 190 appearances and winning the EFL Cup in 2022-23 and the FA Cup in 2023-24. He remains a regular for DR Congo, starting all four of their matches at this summer's World Cup.
