Arsenal reach agreement with Newcastle for Bruno Guimaraes after raising bid to €90m plus bonuses

Arsenal have struck an agreement with Newcastle United to sign Bruno Guimaraes after increasing their offer to a base fee of €90m plus performance add-ons, according to L'Equipe. Newcastle had rejected two earlier bids of €70m and €80m before accepting the improved proposal.

Guimaraes, 28, has already agreed personal terms on a long-term contract through 2031 and has been keen on the move to north London for over a month, with a desire to play Champions League football under Mikel Arteta a driving factor after Newcastle missed out on Europe's top competition.

Per talkSPORT, the midfielder has asked Newcastle to delay his departure for their pre-season training camp in La Manga so the transfer can be finalised, though the club maintain his schedule was always flexible following his involvement at the World Cup.

The move compounds a chaotic summer at St James' Park, which has already seen Sandro Tonali leave for Tottenham and Anthony Gordon depart for Barcelona, alongside Eddie Howe's exit as head coach. Newcastle moved early to soften the blow by signing Aladji Bamba from Monaco, while Guimaraes' former club Lyon stand to collect over €8m via a sell-on clause. Bonus structures and agent fees are being finalised, with Arsenal hopeful of completing the deal, and the player's medical, in the coming days.
