Arsenal complete signing of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes on long-term deal
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, with the Brazil international putting pen to paper on a long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium, the club announced.
The move ends Guimaraes' four-and-a-half-season stint at St James' Park, where he made close to 200 appearances and established himself as one of the Premier League's most combative midfielders.
Speaking in his first interview as an Arsenal player, Guimaraes said he sees the move as the next step in a career built on ambition rather than comfort. "I'm at the point of my life where I need a challenge like this. I want to win trophies, I want to make history and I think I'm in the right place to do it," he said, via Arsenal's official channels.
The 28-year-old, who arrives at what he called his athletic peak, was direct about what he expects to bring to Mikel Arteta's midfield. "I can pass the ball, run a lot and play like a warrior, I'll never give up," he said, promising goals as well as graft from his new role.
Guimaraes framed the move in terms of legacy rather than just trophies, saying he wants his time at Arsenal to be one future signings point to as a standard. He is expected to link up with his new teammates immediately as preparations continue for the season ahead.
