Alvaro Morata targeted by Atlanta United as MLS side eye Como striker as Lukaku alternative

Alvaro Morata could be on the move again just two months after making his switch to Como permanent, with Atlanta United reportedly identifying the striker as a primary target.

The MLS side turned their attention to the 33-year-old after failing to land Napoli's Romelu Lukaku, who looks set to leave Serie A for Fenerbahce instead. According to Sky Sport Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio, via Goal.com, Atlanta have officially identified Morata as their alternative option up front. This is Early Interest, no formal talks or bid have been reported.

Morata only joined Como permanently from AC Milan in June, after a loan spell in which he helped the club qualify for the Champions League for the first time. Despite that, his output for the Blue and Whites was poor: one goal in 30 appearances across all competitions, and none in 26 Serie A games. Como still triggered a buyout clause worth around £8.5 million to sign him outright.

That underwhelming return may explain why Como would be willing to sell so soon. Atlanta aren't the only suitors, Morata has also drawn interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Mexico, along with Deportivo La Coruna in his native Spain, per the same Goal.com report.

If a move to Atlanta goes through, Morata would be joining his eighth club, and would link up with former Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron.
